Calling your cat by name and then have her come to you is actually fairly easy, but you need to understand the actual process.
Cats can be trained, but it requires a special technique as taught by Mary Mathews, a devout cat lover.
Bonding is extremely important, talk as much as possible with your cat. Pet her regularly, and brush her and encourage her to come to you.
You need to pick a dry snack that she really likes. Of course it needs to be different from the dry food that she regularly eats. Get one that is dry and crunchy as that will also be good for her teeth.
Just pick a special word, which she will associate with the special treat. It could be “Treat” or “Snack” or any other word you would like to use.
Whenever you give her a snack, place one piece of food while she is watching in her empty dish and mention the special word.
Repetition is the way she will learn and so put another piece in her bowl and repeat the special word. Make sure that you say the word in the same tone.
Then just walk away, she may give you one of those “I am starving” cries. Then give her another piece and say the word again. Then walk away.
Then after about 5 minutes repeat the exercise. When your cat has a bond with you and is motivated she will learn very quickly.
Do this exercise for several days.
When your cat comes every time when you say your special word. Start giving her the treat only every so often, but instead give her a lot of attention for several minutes.
Then repeat the exercise after a few minutes.
If you have followed the above suggestions right and you have done the bonding exercises as explained in the training manual, your cat will now associate the affection from you with the special word. Now when you use the special word she will come and she will also be more affectionate towards you.
If you can whistle, most cats will respond. A pretty loud and high pitched whistle repeated again and again until your cat comes to you works quite well. In due course your cat will come after just 1 or 2 whistles. This also depends upon having a strong bond with her.
Once your cat has been trained and always comes to you, you can use her name instead of using the special word.
